"China's bamboo planting area and bamboo industry output value are the world's first, planting area of more than 5 million hectares, the output value of more than 900 million a year." Chief Scientist of the Chinese Academy of Forestry: Fu Yiyi, participating in the grassroots level of China's bamboo industry The forum said in an interview with reporters.
Fu Yiyi said that bamboo has been widely used in Chinese food, clothing, housing and transportation. At present, emerging technologies such as bamboo fiber textile, bamboo pulp papermaking, and bamboo extract medicine have entered the lives of the people. As a traditional and important building material, Bamboo has shined at the just-concluded Shanghai World Expo.
The continuous development of the bamboo industry in China has also driven downstream related manufacturing. The bamboo processing machinery produced in China is of good quality and is welcomed by bamboo growers in India and other countries.
At present, the problems in China's bamboo industry are mainly in the conversion of output to output value and pest control, Fu Yuyi said. One of the directions that the bamboo industry must break through is to promote the promotion of high-yield bamboo crops on the premise of ensuring ecological protection. At present, high-yield bamboo accounts for only 10% of the planted area.
Fu Yiyi said that pests and diseases are more serious in the main bamboo producing areas of the country. In the 1970s and 1980s, bamboo forests in Guangxi, China, were extensively affected by fungal infections, causing a large number of crop deaths. As far as disease prevention is concerned, it is necessary to avoid the large-area planting of a single variety, resulting in a decline in ethnic resistance. In addition, it is necessary to control the hazards of the locust disaster on the bamboo industry. Scientific planting and rational planning are necessary conditions for ensuring the healthy development of the bamboo industry, Fu Yiyi said.
