Architects around the world are making the most of the diversity of bamboo, so Bamboo House chose eight of the best bamboo-integrated homes, including a prefabricated social housing project in Mexico and a stilt-house in Sri Lanka.
Manor Bungalow in Narein Paerea, Sri Lanka
In Sri Lanka, bamboo is used to cover the windows of this wooden treetop holiday home. The house was inspired by the local observation cabin and was elevated to a steel bracket to provide an amazing view of the nearby rubber plantation and the surrounding jungle.
Bamboo House, Vietnam, Vo Trong Nghia Architects
Part of the Vo Trong Nghia Architects' House for Trees series, which recreates tropical green spaces in Vietnamese cities, the Bamboo House is covered in huge concrete planters whose vertical grooves are formed by bamboo rafts used for the formwork.
"Bamboo House", Brazil, Villela Florez
The construction company Vilela Florez designed a bamboo panel for the Brazilian house, which was inserted between the dark vertical ribs to help regulate the temperature inside the room.
India, India, made by the earth
The Italian “Earth-made” non-profit architectural studio designed this vibrant foster home surrounded by bamboo screens and placed 15 HIV-positive children in a village in India for the charity Terre des Hommes Core Trust.
Social housing production, Mexico
The higher de Arquitectura of the Mexican city studio Comunal produced a prefabricated bamboo frame for this self-built social housing prototype, which was recreated by residents in seven days.
